2012 A Level Results
At Bosworth Independent College we are pleased to report consistently strong A Level results each year and although it would be foolish to deny that A Level results day is not a stressful and nervous one for both students and teachers we are delighted with what our students have achieved this year.As a college that focuses on trying to ensure the best result for every individual, and knowing that all of our students have worked exceptionally hard in preparation for their examinations, we are always reluctant to name any particular outstanding results.
Consequently although we are very proud of students such as Gilmore Wellio who will be reading Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University, Jillian Lam who will be reading Physics at Oxford University, Xingan Zhao who will be reading Mathematics & Computer Science at Oxford University, Natalie Kondratii who will be reading English Language & Literature at Kings College London and Gloria Olatunji who will be reading Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London, we also genuinely celebrate the students who are never mentioned at these times, such as the ones who probably never thought they could complete an A Level course, but now go off to university with three C grades to their name.
Our results are similar to last year with the number of students with at least one A* or A grade being 68.4% and almost 48% of the grades per subject being A* or A. In terms of A*-B percentages this sits at 72.2%. Though obviously far higher than the national averages, this is in line with an understanding that the government is concerned about the “inflation” of grades, and that proportions at the top end grades had to flatten out.
Of course a new development this year has been the government’s agreement to allow universities to take an unlimited number of “high achieving” students – those with AAB or better – and this clearly is good for many of our students. A corollary, however, is that there may be fewer places in Clearing for those who don’t achieve their offer grades.
Fortunately this applies to very very few of our students, but over the next few days we will be working with them to ensure, as we always do, that they find a place at which to continue their studies.
Pictured on the right are students who were also picking up their results today, Sabbur Anwar who achieved 3 A grades at A Level in Biology, Chemistry, Sociology and an A grade in Maths at AS Level and Laura Martin who achieved 4 A grades at AS Level in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths.

Mr McQuin (Executive Principal). At a time of increasing competition for university places Bosworth Independent College is delighted with results that enable its students to attend leading universities around the country. With over 93% of the grades achieved being in the A* to C range, over 77% being
A or B, and more than 75% of students gaining at least one A grade, it is hardly surprising that the large majority will now be attending their first or insurance choice university.
Equally, in the most competitive universities A* grades are increasingly being used to differentiate between very good and excellent applicants and with 45% of our students gaining at least one A* grade, their chances of attending the very best institutions have been hugely enhanced.
Our top achieving A Level student Jessica Law gained three A* grades and two A grades, but astonishingly achieved this in one year.
She is planning to study Accounting and Finance at Bath University.Executive Principal, Mr McQuin, comments:"With more and more students understanding the importance to their careers and life of attending an outstanding university, we realise that there is hugely increased competition for the most sought after places. It’s for this reason that we are so pleased that the co-operation and work ethic of our students and staff has produced such great results. In particular we are delighted with the fact that from the 89 students who sat their second year exams, 67 achieved at least one A grade and an astonishing 40 of them gained at least one A*."

Bosworth Independent College’s A Level results this year remain consistently high, with over 91% of overall grades being an A, B or C and with 78% at A or B. Also, 40% of our students gained at least one A*, therefore not as inaccessible as we thought.
We are particularly proud this year of 3 of our students who took the 1 year A Level programme with each of them gaining A* in all of the subjects that they sat.
The Executive Principal, Mr McQuin, comments:"We all knew this year it was going to be much tougher for students to get good offers, but looking at the results we are very confident that most, if not all of our students will be studying their subject of choice next year."

2009 A Level Results

Proud of their results: delighted A Level students pictured above with the Executive Principal, Mr. McQuin
Bosworth Independent College students once again achieved exceptional results across the board with 78.4% of the entrants gaining one ‘A’ grade, 52.9% gaining two ‘A’ grades and 36.2% gaining three ‘A’ grades from the 102 students entered. All students gained a pass grade in all subjects and virtually all students expect to begin a University course in September.
Mike McQuin (The Executive Principal) was obviously upbeat about this year’s results, but interestingly he wasn’t just praising the straight ‘A’ students.“Of course we are pleased with the results of the very good students and it’s always good to get your students into the top universities or to study in competitive areas like medicine or law, but we are often happier with the students who have achieved more modest results. In this year’s cohort there are students who came to us, probably not expecting to achieve more than a pass grade at A-Level, but who now have B and C grades and are on their way to University against all expectations. For the College and its teachers, these are the real successes. It is, after all, what we all came into teaching for – to help young people achieve more than they ever thought possible”
