GUARDIANSHIP POLICY (Information for Parents)

This information is relevant to all parents who are sending a son/daughter to study at Bosworth College, regardless of age. Certainly most of our students, especially those under sixteen, have appointed a guardian who is resident in the UK.

Guardianship is another means of support for your son/daughter whilst he/she is in the UK and we encourage parents to appoint a guardian where appropriate. However, it is not compulsory.

Ideally, where possible, most parents appoint a family friend or relative to act as a guardian and this provides your son/daughter with another adult to turn to should they require assistance, advice, or, as is often the case, an alternative place to stay during holiday periods. Where it is not possible to appoint a family friend or relative, professional guardians can be appointed. The following website provides a list of accredited guardians available throughout the UK; www.aegisuk.net

Where a parent does not feel it is necessary to appoint a guardian on the Welfare Authorisation Form, on the rare event of your son/daughter requiring emergency accommodation (i.e. due to suspension from school, or the unavailability of vacation accommodation), the College will employ the services of an accredited guardianship company of their choice and any costs are the responsibility of the parents. The Welfare Form is available to you once you have confirmed your place of study.

BOARDING DURING CHRISTMAS OR EASTER HOLIDAYS

College is closed on ALL public holidays. During the mid-term holidays, all College accommodation is fully supervised, the restaurant remains open and the students can stay in their own rooms if they wish. During Easter and Christmas holidays, the hostels and restaurant are closed. Students are expected to either go home, stay with friends or family or with their appointed guardian. Students aged 17 and over are permitted to rent a room in a College owned Senior House, subject to availability and parental approval. There is an extra charge for this, and parents should understand that food is not provided during these holidays and the houses are not supervised.

Students under 17 are not able to stay in our Senior Houses and should always plan to go home or stay with friends, family or their appointed guardian.

If this is not possible, the College may be able to place such students with host families although this can be expensive during holiday periods and places are very limited.
