Terms and Conditions
Academic Criteria
Students are accepted into the College on the understanding that they make satisfactory progress in their course. The College reserves the right to change a chosen course if the student is not making satisfactory progress. The College will not enter students who do not perform satisfactorily during their course for external public examinations. This will be decided upon by their performance in homework and tutorials, attendance, coursework, internal examinations and public examination potential.
Application and payment
A non-refundable registration fee of £135 is payable with each application. If the application is accepted a written offer of a place is made. A formal Letter of Acceptance will not be issued by the College until the relevant deposit (£1000 for international students and £375 for British day students) is received. This is refundable at the end of the agreed course less any expenses for books, stationery, entertainment, examination fees, breakages, etc.
Breakages, loss and damage
Students are responsible for the cost of making good any damage caused by them to the College or host family property and contents. Occupants of rooms/Senior Houses are independently/collectively liable for their rooms/houses. The College reserves the right to recover costs of damage, exceptional cleaning and defrauding the pay telephones from the student’s deposit.
Cancellation
The deposit monies will be lost if the student withdraws after enrolment or cancels their place before the start of term. If an overseas student cancels or withdraws due to a Visa refusal, only the registration fee of £135 will be withheld. All cancellations must be made in writing and in the case of a visa refusal then the appropriate evidence must be made available. We reserve the right to retain the deposit upon non-completion of the course.
Expulsion or Required Removal
The organisation and regulations of the College are designed to service the whole community, and any student joining the College is expected to abide by the college policies (copies of College rules are on our website and provided at your induction) and to work to the best of his or her ability. The Principal reserves the right to impose sanctions, suspend or terminate any student’s course on academic or disciplinary grounds. ‘Expulsion’ will be imposed for a very serious breach of school discipline and ‘required removal’ for less serious misconduct or for a non-disciplinary reason such as an unwillingness or inability of the student to benefit from the educational regime of the school. There will be no refund of fees in the case of expulsion or required removal. The College has a zero tolerance policy on illegal substances. Parents whose child is attending the College are taken to have agreed that, if in the opinion of the Principal or his designated representative, there is sufficient grounds for suspecting a student of having been in possession of, taken or distributed an illegal substance, the student will be subject to a test. It should also be understood that a positive result or a refusal to take a test will result in automatic expulsion.
Personal Property
Students should take out personal insurance to cover any loss or damage to their property, which may occur while at the College. The College does not accept responsibility for loss or damage to student's property, however caused. If numerous items of personal property are left in bedrooms after a student has left College, these items will be disposed of and the student will be charged £50 for this service. Students have one week to inform the College of their packing arrangements, before the College disposes of personal property.
Provision of Tuition
If a particular subject is undersubscribed the College reserves the right to cancel or amend the hours of tuition.
Residential Accommodation
All residential accommodation is controlled and administered by the College. The allocation of rooms and type of accommodation offered are discretionary, however the College will endeavour to provide the accommodation requested. All students have to clear their rooms for the summer holiday and the College will assist in storing any luggage etc, but this will be at the students’ own risk.
Tuition and Accommodation Fees
- For a one-year course the fees quoted are for payment in two equal instalments. Two equal instalments are due on or before the first day of September and 1st of January.
- On a two-year course three of the 4 instalments are taken in the first 12 months on the 1st days of September and January, the fourth and final payment to be made in January of year 2.
- Flexible payment options are available but only at the discretion of the Principal and may incur a 5% surcharge.
- If payment becomes overdue the College reserves the right to suspend or cancel tuition and to charge interest on the balance at the rate of 2% per month or part thereof.
- Fees remain payable if notice of withdrawal (one month) has not been given.
- No refund of fees can be made for late arrival of students.
- Fees are always kept to a minimum but will increase annually in line with UK inflation rate.
Withdrawal
One term’s notice, or one term’s fees in lieu of notice, is required from any student intending to leave the College. Notice of withdrawal must be in writing and is effective from the date it is received by the College. No refund of fees can be made for absences.
