Bosworth offers 2 year, 18 month and 1 year A Level courses as well as the opportunity for retakes
Two year A Level course
The two-year A Level course starting in September is the most traditional route into any of the UK’s universities. This programme is therefore ideal for students who have either completed GCSEs; in the UK or overseas or completed junior high school or its equivalent in their home countries. British students applying from the UK will usually have completed a GCSE programme, and applicants should have at least five ‘pass’ grades. Grade ‘B’ is required in those subjects (or related subjects) chosen for A Level study.

First language or fluent English speakers normally take four AS Level subjects in the first year and reduce this to three A levels in year two. Students with exceptional AS Level results are encouraged to continue with four A2 subjects in the second year.
Students whose second language is English normally take three AS subjects alongside EFL in the first year, and either continue with three A2 subjects in the second year or may consider adding a further AS subject for the second year. International students joining this course are expected to possess high levels of English therefore allowing second language speakers and English students to study side by side.
On the AS Level course, all students take the Cambridge First Certificate in English and in A2, the IELTS examination.

18-month A Level course
The 18-month A Level course starting in January is aimed at students who have achieved a very high standard in their high school grades and do not require any English language support. Students applying for this course must therefore have IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent). The subjects available for the January programme are: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Maths, Maths Further, Physics and Psychology.
Subjects on the 18-month programme are grouped into the following three options:
- Chemistry, Maths, Maths Further and Physics - Engineering route
- Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics – Medicine/Pharmacy route
- Economics, Maths, Maths Further and Psychology – Business route
Students study 3 or 4 AS subjects from January to June and then continue with A2 in the second year; September – June.
One year A Level course
The One Year A Level intensive programme is designed for students who are over 18 years old and already well qualified but for whatever reason have chosen to undertake an A-Level programme in order to enter a UK university. Students must have exceptional language skills, equivalent to IELTS 6.5 and some prior knowledge is required in at least two of the subject areas intended for study. Each year we accept a small number of students on to this programme and subject choices are restricted to the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Maths, Maths Further, Physics and Psychology.
Oxbridge Preparation
Each year several students will choose to apply to either Oxford or Cambridge. Bosworth runs a preparation programme that, alongside UCAS guidance, prepares students for the rigours of university selection. Bosworth is also a centre for BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test) and LNAT (The National Admissions Test for Law) examinations, and we offer all students within the College the opportunity to join our BMAT/LNAT preparation course. The course includes additional lessons exposing the student to interview techniques, current affairs, and critical thinking. We also encourage students to enter the Maths and Science Olympiads and to get involved in non-academic activities either across College or within the local community. Our Principal plays a major role in the co-ordination of this programme, guiding students at every stage.
Bosworth has a history of strong academic success and achievement in our A Level courses and this can be seen in our A Level results table. The 2010, 2009 and 2008 results are among the best for A Level colleges in Northamptonshire.
Students can transfer to Bosworth Independent College to study at A2 Level only, however you must have completed the AS level course in the subjects you wish to study. If you want to re-sit AS units to improve your grades as well as studying A2, this is also possible.
This sort of flexibility and breadth of choice is quite unusual for most A Level colleges.
