Intensive English Language or Combined Language Programmes
This one-year course is designed for
students who wish to develop their English
skills in order to progress onto GCSE or,
in some cases, AS study. Students will have
the opportunity to study practical subjects
including maths, general science,
computing, art and design, and also take
part in organised recreational activities.
This programme is aimed at students who
require intensive language development and
are currently at elementary or lower
intermediate level.
On this programme the students take English
Language alongside 5 Foundation GCSE
subjects; Maths, Computing, General Science
and two of the following; Business Studies,
Geography or Art. Organised recreational
activities are also part of this programme.
This one-year course is ideal for those
younger students; aged sixteen and below,
who want to combine their language learning
with an academic qualification.
When students arrive at the College, it may
be that their level of English does not
allow them to immediately progress onto
their desired course, i.e. A Levels or
University Foundation Programme. This
course is therefore designed to raise the
students’ level of English to that needed
for academic success. This type of course
is unique within the College as it can be
started at the beginning of the September,
January or April terms. Students on the
one-year option have the opportunity to
take a Cambridge KET or PET exam.
This course consists of 20 hours of English including specialist classes focussing on different aspects of the English language including:
Students will also study AS Introductory Mathematics and either modules of Economics or Portfolio Art & Design.
