English with Foundation GCSE (GEFL)

English with Foundation GCSE

On this one-year programme students take English language alongside GCSE maths and general science, plus two or three from the following: business studies, geography or art. This one-year course is ideal for those students aged sixteen and below who want to combine their language learning with an academic qualification. The course starts in September and, for the first six weeks, all students follow the same syllabus.

At half-term, following a number of English language and academic subject assessments, the students are streamed based on their language ability. Those with stronger English skills will aim to take at least three or four GCSE exams. Those with weaker English will require a timetable providing more language development and they will do this alongside their GCSE subjects, though it is possible that they will not take external examinations except in mathematics.

All of our students under sixteen years of age participate in organised recreational activities. Boarding students are provided with a range of indoor and outdoor activities.
