Bosworth Independent College has been running summer
school programmes for over 15 years. The programmes are
aimed at individuals or small school groups who wish to
benefit from a professionally structured language
course balanced with social and cultural activities
across the week. All of our programmes are managed by
full-time staff within the college.
For 2011 we are offering the following programmes:
• Academic English for Teens (13–19 years old)
• Combined Course: English Language with Art Portfolio Preparation
This programme is aimed at students who are aged between 13–19 years old who wish to meet students of a similar age and prepare their English for use in future academic environments. The course is fun, using themed English lessons in class with outdoor activities and mid-week local excursions. The course also includes a day trip to another nearby town/city every Saturday, and transport will either be by coach or national rail.
The hostel accommodation is fully supervised and all meals are provided in the college; the menus are varied and always include a ‘healthy’ option. In conclusion this course is ideal for motivated students who are preparing for GCSEs, A-Levels or equivalent academic programmes, either in the UK or elsewhere but also wish to ‘taste’ life in Britain.
• Morning – English lessons. Students will be divided into ability groups and this will be based on the individual’s language level. The course will cover the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. There will also be lessons concentrating on pronunciation, drama, literature, business English and grammar.
• Afternoon - The afternoon sessions will either be classroom based or learning experienced through a local activity. The afternoon sessions, although intended to be fun, will also have educational value; developing the student’s confidence and fluency, in varied learning environments.

Academic English with Art Portfolio Preparation
This programme provides a specialist focus for those students who need to improve their art work for portfolio purpose, or simply for students who have an interest in art and creative design. This can be combined with academic English and local excursions but also provides 6 hours per week of focused art work. Ideally students intending to create a portfolio should attend a six week course but we can offer shorter periods of study if required.
• Morning – English lessons as per the Teen Programme
• Afternoon – Students who are undertaking the Art Portfolio option will have art workshops three times per week and join the weekly outdoor activities on the remaining two days
• Workshops will include; working with acrylics, pastel, water colours, oil paints and pencils as well as exploring a variety of skills and techniques. Textiles and Fashion and/or 3D/Sculpture workshops may also be available if required
• The sessions will also examine presentation styles and how to understand and respond to examination questions. Workshops can be tailored to meet individual needs
