Bosworth is a top independent college offering high quality University Foundation courses
University Foundation Programme (UFP)
The UFP is a one year course designed specifically for international applicants and prepares students for the demands of undergraduate study at university. The UFP offers an alternative to A-Level study. However, students should be confident when they apply to join the course that they know which career route they wish to follow at university.
Who is the course suitable for?
Very often international students who have completed their Senior High School education programme are required to do a Foundation year in order to gain access to a degree programme of their choice. The course will develop students’ language skills and provide knowledge in specific academic subject areas. It is therefore an ideal course for students who are slightly older and prefer a one-year option rather than a two-year A level course.Course structure and content
Students will study six subject areas in total, and the
The core subjects are: Mathematics, Communication Skills and Information Technology.
Students also choose three elective modules from the list below and these have been grouped in line with our Foundation career routes. For example, a student wishing to study Architecture at University will select the Engineering route and choose a combination of three of the subjects under this career field.
* Within the elective of International Studies students will have a further choice of some or all of the following, selecting two options; Geography, Law, Psychology and Sociology.
How is the course assessed?
All elective modules, with the exception of art, are subject to four written examinations, but these are taken at equal intervals during the course. IELTS preparation is also a vital component of the course, providing an opportunity for students to secure a good IELTS result that is required by universities.University Progression
Throughout the year the College arranges a number of visits to various universities and all students receive extensive counselling about which institution and course would be their best choice. We have progression agreements with several universities including Bath, Sussex, Queen Mary’s. Each year our students go to some very good universities and as one representative from Birmingham University commented; “Bosworth students all seem so determined, organized and know what they want to achieve at University”.Our recent UFP results show some of the degree options that students may wish to enter on completion of their course.
Pre-Foundation Preparation Course
When students arrive at the College, it may be that their level of English does not allow them to progress immediately onto the University Foundation Programme. In such cases students may elect to study on our English Language enhancement course designed to raise the students’ level of English to that needed for academic success. Alongside English Language, students will also receive academic lessons concentrating on maths and economics. This programme can be studied for one term to one year; the time required will be determined by the students’ level of English.| Academic Entry requirements: | Completed High School Diploma or Certificate |
