UKCISA Tier 4 Student Experience Survey

UKCISA launches survey on the student experience of Tier 4 visas.

The UK Council for International Student Affairs is running a survey throughout October to gather feedback from international students who applied to come to the UK via the Tier 4 student route in 2011.

Students who respond to the survey can help identify how the student immigration system can be improved. Students also get the chance to be entered into a prize draw for five iPod shuffles.

The survey can be accessed via the UKCISA's website or direct to the online survey.

Best of luck with your entry!

Student Summer Ball 2011

Student Summer Ball 2011

The pictures above show our well attended Summer Ball event which is held at the Guildhall in Northampton Town Centre. As you can see from the pictures many of the students chose to arrive in style! A fun evening was had by all.

We are family

we are family

"We Are Family"

Pictured above is Carlos Ventura Accioly and Joao Pedro Fontes Porto (Carlos is in the middle and Joao is second from the right), they are pictured here with Carlos’s family. The whole of the Accioly contingency came to the UK for a break and we were very happy to meet them all and show them around.

Both Carlos and Joao were friendly, outgoing students who made a lot of friends and contributed well within the College.

Joao believes,

Bosworth has a wonderful atmosphere and everyone is very friendly and the city of Northampton is a beautiful place.

Carlos felt,

The people I have met here I will never forget, they will be my friends forever. My English has massively improved thanks to Bosworth.

Bosworth is fairly new into the South American market and as well as these two Brazilian students we have a group of Columbian students joining us for six weeks for our 2011 summer school programme. Sue Griffin (Director of Marketing & Admissions) will travel to both destinations in September to visit local schools.

We do strongly advise all prospective students to be aware of the changes to the visa application process and read the information on the following web site: www.ukvisas.gov.uk

Students join live international link-up with Tanzanian school

Last October, Bosworth Independent College students had the opportunity to speak live to a student and teacher from a school for the blind in Tanzania. The teacher was an ex student of the school and was also blind.

The school was set up approximately 10 years ago and is a salvation for the blind students who are chosen as before they would have been in classes of over 100 children in a normal school, which obviously limited their ability to learn.

The link up was part of the BBC ‘Hunger to Learn’ series and Bosworth Independent College was chosen because of its international student mix.

Five Bosworth students got the opportunity to take part throughout the day and we were on two channels BBC world and BBC news channel. Students were sat in front of a web cam, watching themselves as well as the student and teacher in Tanzania on the screen.

Through the headset the BBC gallery staff instructed the students how long they had before going live to the link up. Once live, the students on average got to ask about 4 questions each.

The Tanzanian student understood some of our questions and we did manage to find out his favourite football team was Everton! The teacher was able to explain to us in more detail what life is like in Tanzania, what the school day consisted of and why he had chosen to go into teaching.

It was a fascinating insight for Bosworth students to take part in the live link up and to get to understand how little some schools have in the way of facilities. It was a humbling experience for all involved and definitely made the students recognise how lucky they are to receive a good education.

Why choose to study at Bosworth Independent College?

Why choose to study at Bosworth Independent College
Here at Bosworth Independent College we pride ourselves on our unique learning experience which is both intense and flexible. This is delivered in a caring and supportive environment that allows students to really reach their potential – possibly achieving more than they ever dreamed.

We house International students from over 20 different countries along with UK pupils who primarily join us as day students.

Which means anyone who joins the College from the UK enters a rich cultural experience, mixing with students from all over the world. This greatly broadens their view of the world and their understanding of International issues.

We also strongly believe students are challenged by their International counterparts particularly in the subjects of maths and science and it opens their eyes to the competitiveness they will face at University level. Pre University, we encourage students to raise their game at GCSE and A Level, ensuring they work consistently hard towards their final exams.

The College has been established for over 33 years and has grown from a small tutorial college into a learning centre for over 300 students. With highly experienced teaching staff and average class sizes of 8 to a class, students are given the support and attention they require to achieve their full potential.

For GCSE we offer either a one or two year programme with 16 subject options on the current curriculum.

The two year GCSE course is aimed at students who are 14 and just joining the GCSE learning level, these students will take 7-10 subjects.

The one year GCSE course is aimed at International students or slightly older UK students who are looking to progress to A Level’s as quickly as possible and they take 5-7 GCSE’s.

For A Level we also offer a one or two year programme with 22 subject options on the two year programme and 7 subject choices for the one year option on the current curriculum.

The one year A Level is aimed at UK students who have already studied to a higher level and they either need to retake or they want to choose a new subject. Or for International students who have already studied to a higher level and have the ability to complete A Levels in one year.

Our aim for our UK students is to teach them from GCSE to A Level (14-18 years) ensuring they reach their full potential to achieve the University of their choice. Nearly all of our students progress to University, but we pride ourselves that last year 59% of our A Level students left to attend one of the top 25 UK Universities.

Our A Level results are outlined in full in the results section.
