The appliance of Science

At Bosworth Independent College we appreciate that young people vary in their approach to Science. Some students can’t get enough of the subject and opt to follow all three separate sciences, whilst others are possibly keen on just one or two of the science options.

For others who do not have a passion for the subject, but who appreciate employers and university admission tutors wish to see this under a student’s GCSE list, they choose to study general science. We firmly believe in offering this flexibility to students as we recognise the importance of tailoring to the needs of the individual at GCSE.

At Bosworth we offer a one year or two year GCSE syllabus for many different science options: general science, biology, chemistry or physics. We have the facility of 6 separate laboratories which helps us to timetable the 3 individual science subjects. We also allow any student to re-sit their GCSE sciences with us if they need to improve their grade.

For A Level, we recommend only students who have studied either; double science or biology, chemistry and physics GCSE progress through to A Level, as it is too big a jump to move from general science through to the individual sciences.

Of the nine possible modules of GCSE science only 3 are covered in general science. If a student has studied the three individual sciences of biology, chemistry and physics they will have covered all 9 modules.

Taking the Science subjects through to A Level leads to a wide variety of career opportunities: medicine, dentistry, optometry and engineering to list just a few.

In 2009 Bosworth students gained a grade A/A* at 56% in Chemistry, 50% in Physics and 39% in Biology.
